Kostaryka Hacienda Sonora Geisha 200 g
Meet Hacienda Sonora’s Geisha, a Costa Rican gem with a rare and enchanting profile. Grown by Alberto and Diego Guardia, this Geisha variety is renowned for its layered sweetness and floral fragrance, with notes of peach, apricot, and blackcurrant. Expect a balanced cup that combines bright acidity with delicate fruit flavours and a hint of tropical vibrancy.
Nestled near the volcanic region of Costa Rica, Hacienda Sonora spans over 80 hectares, with an additional 20 hectares preserved as forest reserve. Alberto Guardia has managed the estate since the 1970s. His son, Diego, joined him in 2011, strengthening their commitment to quality and sustainable practices. The farm’s diverse ecosystem, including more than 20 coffee varieties, thrives under the shade of native trees, providing a unique microclimate for their exceptional beans.
For this Geisha micro-lot, the Guardias use a traditional natural drying method. After being handpicked, the cherries are carefully sorted and dried on patios for nine days, followed by a three-day resting period. This method intensifies the beans’ fruity essence, allowing the natural sugars to enrich the cup’s vibrant character.
What truly makes Hacienda Sonora stand out is its pioneering spirit. As one of the early adopters of experimental processing, Alberto brought innovations like Honey and Natural processing to Costa Rica. Today, this approach produces coffees celebrated for their complexity, with each variety revealing a unique facet of the terroir.
