José has travelled a long road before owning his plantation. As a young boy, he worked as a picker, harvesting coffee cherries in various regions. His determination, after many years of hard work, allowed him to buy a piece of land in the Mercedes region. On his nearly 4-hectare farm, José primarily grows the Parainema variety, known for its exceptional resistance. Thanks to natural processing, the coffee cherries absorb sugars and retain a broad spectrum of flavours, which can be felt in the intense taste experience. José sees his work as more than just cultivation; he has set out to create a better future for his family. His children, though still young, are fascinated by the daily life of the plantation and often accompany him at work, learning the skills of a coffee grower firsthand, perhaps to carry on the family’s coffee legacy in the future.
